Simon Davies - Introduction

Hi, my name is Simon Davies, from Bridgend, South Wales. I am 51 and my background is engineering although for the past 20 years I have worked in the financial service sector.

My family is fairly active, my wife Janet and I spend a lot of our free time walking / hiking and then as a family we enjoy our annual ski holidays. I have also been a keen cyclist for around 26 years, preferring to mountain bike with friends and fellow enthusiasts, but in 2015 Janet bought me a road bike for my 50th birthday, and I have been getting to grips with it ever since.

For the past eleven years I have challenged myself by completing at least one fund raising event every year for various charities. These have ranged range from skydiving, Dartmoor Ten Tors Challenges and various cycle events, but nothing to long though.

However, recently a very close member of my family and great friend was sadly diagnosed with cancer; witnessing their horrible battle has spurred me on immensely to increase my fundraising efforts for Bloodwise and take on a new challenge in the form of the Bloodwise Blenheim Palace Triathlon. Every year I try to persuade friends and family to join me on these events, unfortunately this year it looks like this will be a solo effort, but I will still enjoy their unparalleled support!

"2016 will be my year of action, where I compete in the Welsh Velothon 140km cycle challenge only two weeks before the Bloodwise Blenheim Palace Triathlon, both for the very worthy cause of Bloodwise. Over the next few months I will be updating you on my progress, as I take on my very first triathlon – wish me luck!"
