THE RIDE

The Marie Curie Etape Caledonia is generally regarded as the UK’s leading sportive, welcoming over 5,000 cyclists to the beautiful town of Pitlochry, Scotland.

The 81 mile course takes in some of the most breath-taking views the Scottish Highlands has to offer, as well as a festival atmosphere to look forward to at the finish line. It’s a must do for both cycling enthusiasts and first timers looking to experience the thrill of riding on completely closed roads in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

The 2016 Marie Curie Etape Caledonia was the 10th year anniversary and was bigger and better than ever. Over the years we have had fantastic support from the local residents which has allowed us to welcome tens of thousands of riders to Pitlochry over the past decade. Scroll down to explore the different entry options.

ROUTE

The 2016 route is now available to view, click on the thumbnail to open.

Shortly after setting off from a buzzing Pitlochry you will pass Loch Tummel and Loch Rannoch, both of which will have you marvelling at the sheer beauty of the region.

This breathtaking start to the route not only sets the scene aesthetically, but also helps prepare your legs for the steep King of the Mountains (KOM) climb up Schiehallion. You will be pleased to hear that your hard work up this KOM climb will be rewarded with panoramic views across the awe inspiring Scottish Highlands, whilst providing you with a chance to look back at what you have just conquered.

With the steepest hill now behind you, the remainder of the route makes for relatively easy riding. You will even be rewarded with a downhill section which goes on for over 8km!

As you leave the fourth and final feed station of the route you will be cheered up the final climb by the inspirational Marie Curie supporters, before riding a further 6km through forest lined roads which lead you to the jubilant finish line in the heart of Pitlochry.

Daniel Sheard took part in Etape Caledonia:

“For many of the participants the Etape is a sporting event, for me it was about celebrating the memory of my dad. ‘Don’t forget to look left and right – you’re cycling through one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world’. That was probably the best advice I got but even more inspirational than that was the supporters. I’m not ashamed to say I was moved to tears more than once.”
